ArtScience on Screen: I Am Not A Robot
From 13 Sep | 10.00am-7:00pm (on loop)
Expression Gallery, Level 4 | Free admission
In the future how will we perceive ourselves in relation to the beings that surround us?
Will we still feel a sense of belonging based on gender, religious, ethnic or social groupings? Or will we retune our perceptive systems to understand each other as belonging to the tribe of humans, automatons or synthetic intelligent beings?
Will we embrace these differences or will we still perceive a threat in the ‘other’- trapped in a paranoid state of distrust? And when the opportunity arises for a fertile future will we be able to act or will our fearful paralysis hold us back?
In this short film programme, three artists and film-makers from Africa, United States and the Middle East explore the relationships that might exist between beings in tomorrow’s world. Films include: Rajeev Dassani and Elan Dassani Seam, Fadi Baki Fdz, Last Days of the Man of Tomorrow and Wanuri Kahiu, Pumzi.
Pumzi and Last Days of the Man of Tomorrow were first screened by Cinema Akil for Global Art Forum: I Am Not A Robot in Dubai, March 2018.

ArtScience On Screen: Seeing Systems
From 3 Aug
ArtScience Galleries, Level 4 | Free admission
Seeing Systems is a new curated programme exploring some of the organic and non-organic systems that invisibly impact on our lives. Through a series of short but impactful art films, this programme visualises the patterns, structures and habits that surround us in our everyday lives; from the ubiquitous flight path of mosquitos or the neurological grid of perception to almost superstitious paranoia surrounding invisible transmission of germs and viruses between us or the oblique tracks of migration and dispersal, belonging and difference.
This collection of moving image works by UK artists has been curated and presented in collaboration with videoclub, a leading UK agency for artists working in moving image. Artists included are boredomresearch, Suki Chan, Anne Haaning, Lyndsay Mann, Ursula Mayer, Naheed Raza and Louise K Wilson.

Nick Ut
